Throwback Thursday With LeTeisha Newton and Michelle Monkou

Each Thursday LeTeisha Newton and I have exchanged Q&A that will give a peek into our lives and our books, Kissed By A Warrior and LeTeisha's One Hour Girl.

Make sure you join the FB Release Day Party for the books HERE!

Kissed By A Warrior

Kissed By A Warrior is a romantic adventure set in post-modern Japan, where the criminal elements compete for the allegiance of a particular warrior, Kenzo Tenaka, because of his special gift.

Ken vows to protect his family and his true love, Nyah Reyes. But he must learn to navigate within the strict order of the clans or face the consequences of their displeasure.

As danger looms, Ken is forced to choose between duty or love. However, Nyah refuses to lose her warrior to ancient customs and clansmen’s whims.  Will they become a united front and face war or go their separate ways to maintain peace?

LeTeisha: When did you decide writing was for you?

Michelle: Writing was always fun and a natural part of my childhood. It wasn’t until I joined a writer’s group that I contemplated writing for others to read my work, and eventually writing as a profession. By the late 90s, I knew that I wanted to pursue this with serious intent and I worked hard for six months to finish writing my first romance story.

LeTeisha: What was your most embarrassing day?

Michelle: Pretty much most of my childhood, even some college days could be described as embarrassing day or moments. I was out of my cultural element as a foreign student and wasn’t always at the top of the learning curve of what was cool.

LeTeisha: Were you adventurous or a wallflower as a child?

Michelle: For many who didn’t know me or who I didn’t trust/like to be in my friendship circle, I’m sure that they thought of me as quiet. But really, my friends and I were adventurous and funny.

LeTeisha: What was your guilty vice as a child?

Michelle: I really didn’t do anything that warranted me to feel guilty and I’m not sure of any vices. I was fairly obedient so I didn’t have punishments and time outs and groundings.

LeTeisha: As an adult?

Michelle: Nothing really. I don’t like to feel not in control, so I don’t give in to addictions - TV, food, drugs, etc. So if I feel like I’m spending too much time on something, I just stop doing that thing. My inner voice has a pretty big voice.

One Hour Girl

He thinks I’m his forever girl, I saw it in his eyes. I wished I could have slapped the look off his face and hit him with the same jarring finality I’d learned I didn’t mean shit.

I’m not a forever sort of girl.

I’m not even his for the night.

He’ll be lucky if I’m his for the next hour if he doesn’t pay me for it.

And then Royce Mattherson stormed my defenses. Took all the poison inside of me and pushed it out through my pores. He tasted the taint on my skin and still decided to love me. He terrifies me.

Exhilarates me. Frustrates me.

And he always gets what he wants

Michelle: First kiss -- good/bad/meh?

LeTeisha: First kiss was pretty awesome, to be honest. I think because I waited so long. My first kiss belonged to my first in everything else, so it was pretty explosive. We didn’t work out, but he’s still my friend to this day, and I could never imagine kissing him now LOL.

Michelle: Flowers or chocolate?

LeTeisha: Black roses any day over chocolate. Call me an oddball, but it’s true. Odd colored flowers that most would see as macabre or sad is really cool to me. So, give me those, and I’m sooooo happy.

Michelle: Who was your first celebrity crush?

LeTeisha: Oh man, can I not answer this one? Ugh. I was into John Travolta. Like seriously. I mean, I was watching Grease, Saturday Night Live, and Urban Cowboy like OMG!

Michelle: Name one song that you’d sing in the shower?

LeTeisha: That changes weekly LOL. This week it’s Fetty Wap’s 679 because I love that silly chorus. The week before it was Wicked Games, and before that it was Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek. It’s whatever I’m feeling.

Michelle: Heels or sneakers?

LeTeisha: HEELS. Heels are super sexy. I was a major tomboy as a child, and so when I discovered I could still run in a pair of heels because I ran on my toes in track it was game on from then!

See ya next week!
